Taking God At His Word

“I am convinced that God, who began this good work in you ,will carry

it through to completion!”

(Philippians 1:6)

“Whatsoever things are true...honest...just...pure... lovely...

of good report...think on these things.”

Philippians 4:8

Think on this great statement by Buddy Owens, author of the book ‘The Way Of The Worshiper’, when he says: “Lasting change doesn’t start with you, it starts with God. It all begins when we say ‘Yes Lord, I’m taking you at Your word’!” Imagine that. This thought tells me that God isn’t asking us to make a promise that we can’t keep. He is asking us to receive a promise that only He can keep, and if we allow Him, He will keep it!!

When we confess our faith, we are receiving God’s promises into our lives, and He always keeps His promises. When we confess our faith, we are taking God at His word, and we can!! Receiving the word and all of its promises then include:

● He loves us – we have His word on it - (John 3:16)

● We are forgiven – we have His word on it - (Psalm 103:3)

● We belong to Him – we have His word on it - (Romans 1:6)

● He will never leave us or give up on us – we have His word on it - (Hebrews 13:5)

● He will meet and provide for our need – we have His word on it - (Philippians 4:19)

● He has a plan and purpose for our lives – we have His word on it - (Jeremiah 29:11)

God knows how to do makeovers. As we build our lives on the Word of God, He will truly make us a new person – a total makeover from the inside out. The exciting thing to real­ize from our text above is that what God starts, He will finish. Ever started some project and you just never get around to finishing it. Every time you walk in the house the unfinished project stares you in the face. In some cases the project never gets finished. But, God will complete what He has started in us and His word is sure!! See again what Paul said here, “I am convinced that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it through to completion!” (Philippians 1:6)

Our responsibility is to believe it, confess it, and act on it. Let it renovate our lives. Paul went on to say “Be made new in the attitude of your mind!” However, we must be aware and warned: expect to be challenged. Obviously, the devil does not want us to be free, so he will whisper old lies to us. He’ll try to discourage us and accuse us. He will try to bring our past to haunt and harass us. But as Evangelist Greg Laurie says, “Whenever the Devil tries to remind you of your past, you remind him of his future!” We need to start confessing our faith.

What lies do you still believe?? What keeps you from walking in the freedom and joy of the Lord?? We need to start declaring the truth of God’s Word and then act on that truth. Let’s never forget that all important promise, “You shall know the truth and the truth will make you free!” (John 8:32). We can take God at His word. He will perform that word, and He will complete it concerning us. How’s your confession today??
